Rear Stereo Cabinet Installation

The MARK III Supra does not have a lot of room in the cabin for installing very much stereo gear. There is virtually no place to mount a CD changer that is not in the way of something. The same can be said for a SubWoofer and amplifier of any size. The front seats have very little clearance under them. The rear hatch area has room but installation of anything large back there will compromise the versatility of the area and its ability to be converted to a cargo hold. I finally settled on a plan to replace the rear seat with a cabinet to house my amplifier, CD changer and SubWoofer cabinet.

The rear seat was removed and replaced with a cabinet constructed of 3/4" MDF.

This provides a large rear deck on which to stow things. They do tend to roll around a bit so I generally secure loose stuff with bungee cords.

A set of can coozies have a permanent mounting place between and behind the seats.

The height of the cabinet is level with the rear deck to provide one continuous surface for stowing things. Also the SubWoofer cabinet can be no lower and still house a 10" speaker. There is about 1/4" clearance between the top of the SubWoofer Cabinet and the underside of the cabinet decklid.

The area under the deck has plenty of room for the amplifier, CD changer and subwoofer cabinet. There is also plenty of room for stowage of tools, and other stuff I normally like to carry with me.
